So You Want to be a Multiplayer Web Games Developer?

Want to in my first article "A Game Developers You?" (Http: / / ezinearticles.com /? So-You-Want-to-be-a-Games Developer & id = 70920), I discussed various games genres, including Web / e-mail games. This is one of the easiest ways to start developing games, you are not limited to one language or platform, and the costs are fairly low. In this article I am going with the various technologies with which you are looking for and give you an idea of what's possible to do, and how youstarted.

Web games can be divided into various sub-email games, browser games and multi-player gaming. E-mail games are by far the simplest and technically they are not web games, and you do not even need a computer to it as moderate, only to send and receive messages. Browser games are implemented in Flash, JavaScript (DHTML), Java, and even ActiveX / COM. My guess is that most single-player games implemented in Flash, but I'll save that for a later article. To start with, but I'll take you through what in the development of Web-multiplayer games.

Before you start, go back and look at the Multi-Player Online Games Directory-http: / / www.mpogd.com. One excellent resource and gives you an idea of the kind of games out there free from small games to the massive games like EverQuest by Sony.

The great multiplayer games are not web-based, but they do work on the Internet. They tend to have their ownwritten to customers with encrypted protocols, fast 3D graphics and great team of customer support personnel. I recommend http://terranova.blogs.com/ as an excellent blog on this article and quotes from celebrities such as Richard Bartle, who produced the first mud to find (an acronym for Multi User Dungeon) and Professor Edward Castranova, a expert on virtual world economies. Muds also tend to their own customers tend to use Telnet to base. Although it is not web games, Irecommend you widen your experience as much as possible. Sludges, in particular, though not the most popular genres still exist and provide a good model for interactive games.

Intrusions in computer game design and programming is as simple as a full-time programmers commercial game, that is, its not! But there is nothing to stop the development of your own web game, and MPOGD be happy I'm sure it's in their directory list. If the open-source, you can set it up and have to find other Developer Soiurceforge.net.

There are two categories of web game: real-time and turn-based, and this determines the type of technology that drives it. Real-time is more complicated, the server has multiple connections simultaneously support and care must be taken to synchronize the action between clients. If you attack someone and they have already moved, but your customer will not hold up then your game is not to be popular.

A crossover between multiplayer> Webgames client and custom games with Macromedia's Flash is possible. It is likely that the multiplayer action games, flash-based are more productive, there are quite a few around now. Unfortunately, SourceForge has many such ideas, do not have the behind the planning. Even that might not mean as open source to create such games there is much work needed. Google for flash multiplayer game is a few million results, but add open source, and it drops to a few hundredThousand.

If you make an excellent Flash developer and have good writing server code, as well, I suggest you stick to it based games. The good news is that Web-based is an area where open source development is fruitful. A search on sourceforge.net for 'several more games server "projects that are mature or beta. Fancy developing an RPG in java • Use Arianne. Or if C # is more your style, take a look at Ovorp. The most popular languages are C + + and Java (the server), butC # projects are already underway, and appear to C, see Perl, and Python as well. But do not limit your search to SourceForge, there are many projects elsewhere. An excellent source for finding games is dmoz.org-= The Open Directory Project. Take a look at http://dmoz.org/Computers/Open_Source/Software/Games/ and http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Roleplaying/Massive_Multiplayer_Online/Independent_Developers/

For example, Black Nova traders, which lies on SourceForge athttp://sourceforge.net/projects/blacknova and has its own url http://www.blacknova.net/ BlackNova Traders is a Web-based multi-player space exploration game inspired by the popular BBS game Trade Wars. It is classified as a turn based mud. It is coded with PHP, SQL, and Javascript. BNT is officially in beta, but is a pretty complete game, which is simply not ready. In fact, it can never be as long as the developers optimize it!

If you develop a Web pageGame you need a server. Yes, you can do online, but it is slow. The best setup your own server.

A good starting point with the most popular technology is the open source LAMP family. The Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. If you replace your Windows PC with a new PC, wipe the hard drive on the old PC and install a Linux distribution and hook the two with a crossover network cable. What was a relatively sluggish Windows-based PC is now a good development server with Apache, PHPand Mysql. Linux GUIs are very friendly in those days, but if you are to manage Linux, download and install webmin from webmin.com it unsafe. It makes Linux administration stuff like Samba configuration file (if) the drives by virtual sites on Apache etc very easy. Or, even simpler, the WAMP way with everything that is installed on your Windows machine. For pros and cons of this have a look here. http://ezinearticles.com/?Windows-vs-Linux-- Hosting & id = 21,972

OneWord of warning. You can check it, your Web server to the Internet, your DSL connection. Nothing wrong with that, although it limits you to two or three users simultaneously. If you have a static IP address of their very simple, one domain to view it. It can be done with a dynamic IP connection as well. Search for dynamic DNS to find out how to do the work. Make sure in every case that you have enough firewall protection. An unprotected Windows PC will probably be accepted under15 minutes. I strongly recommend that you purchase a firewall router, or invest in a professional software firewall at the least.

In future articles I will discuss the nuts and bolts of game software development and to begin to develop an open source game.

What to Look For in a Web Host?

Disk Space

The amount of space offers generally not a factor in those days. Most sites will use less than 50 MB and if you host a lot of pictures or video and audio files, a few hundred MB is sufficient. If you like your e-mail on the server you want to have more space to store it.
Bandwidth

Most websites use less than 2 GB of traffic per month. If this becomes a high traffic site to search for more. Also check overageFees and through its policy with regard to what happens when a site goes over the border.
OS

Under most conditions, you are going to want to choose a UNIX-based system. These are generally more stable and secure than their Windows counterparts. The only time I am is someone with a Windows hosting when they need it for ASP or ASP.NET scripting or for any other reason, it is necessary. Many people misunderstand that the computer at home, it does not matterthis choice.
Speed

Before you sign up with a company ever be sure what kind of relationship they have with the Internet and ask what type of redundancy exists for this connection. See if they do not sample sites they can rely on you to let you test the load times.
Reliability

Ask if there is a guarantee of availability for their hosting plans. Look for maturity of 99.99% or better. Things happen and have server problems, but it is importantto see how quickly solve these issues. Questions whether it is a historical data of their reliability, they may have ensured.
Shell Access

If you anticipate will need shell access, check to see if it is available. Many web hosts are disabling this feature
Scripting languages and database allows

Make sure that the plan you have with GO about all the functions you need. Make sure it has CGI access. When you install a script make sure that the hostingsupports the language and the type of database can be exploited. Most UNIX-based plans should be CGI, PHP, Perl, MySQL, and for most Windows-based plans should ASP, ASP.NET, MS SQL and Access databases to assist.
Statistics

Make sure that they too will see software for statistical information. Ask what they offer and see if it contains all required information.
Support

This may look a very important matter. Look for both telephone andE-mail support ticket methods. When telephone charges are a problem, make sure a free number is available. The most important thing is to be sought in the future of web host is the turnaround time for resolving technical problems. It is too late to verify, or complains about this once a problem has occurred. The shorter the response time the better. If you are new to the website / hosting world, and expect to call for help in setting up your account, make sure that you check,to see whether this is permissible. Most support departments are not your web design reference for the design and will correct mistakes.
Server site

The location of the server to play a major role in the access speed. If your customers are in the United States of servers in the United States should be. If your customers are in India, your server should be in India.
Price

If the price is too good to be true, then it probably is. Youget what you pay for. If you spend less than $ 10 per month, expect the same level of service to be this amount. I have personally worked with customers who use the sites that are spoken in thousands of dollars a day on a $ 3.95/month hosting package. If the site is no longer with the server problems, do not expect the hosting company, to pay a single cent of your lost revenue. If you have a high income a shared website hosting plan is not in question, and youshould look in. for a custom package with redundancy

Is Unlimited Hosting Really Unlimited, Or Just Intended To Get Customers Hooked?

As a shared web hosting is becoming more and more competition, more players with so-called "unlimited" hosting plans. Usually you will offer unlimited e-mail accounts, add-on domains, bandwidth, disk space, MySQL databases and other functions.

However, this is really true or just something we want to hook you in and then you do pay more? Yes, say many experts believe that unlimited hosting plans are a joke and not a hostingPackage is really unlimited. Let's take a look at some advantages and disadvantages of unlimited hosting.

Among the most controversial elements are of unlimited hosting space and bandwidth. There is no such thing as unlimited disk space, right? Yes, that's true, but most offer unlimited disk basis by a number of servers, so that when a disk is full, they simply add another server or disk. Theoretically, they can simply by crackingPlates such as the need and thus make for really unlimited storage. This is, in fact, the way any hosting provider is whether they are "unlimited" or not. The same holds true for bandwidth. If a particular hosting company of the bandwidth allowance is nearly full, they buy more of the advertiser to use them.

In theory, then, yes, it is true. Hosting providers can offer truly unlimited bandwidth and storage space, provided they keep adding resources as they need. But many critics say keep the unlimited hosting service that no hosting company to acquire more resources without end, because it is simply not economically feasible. Well, this is certainly true if a hosting company's customers, without exception, with literally hundreds of gigabytes of storage space and bandwidth. However, most people use only a few megabytes. So this is why this can work hosting companies. In fact, they risk the assumption that all but 1% of thetheir customers to use only a small amount of the capacity of their servers.

The next question is how the hosting company handle that 1% of customers do use a large amount of resources in bandwidth and storage space. This is quite at their discretion and will depend on what their own "fair use" policy. In fact, it is likely to expose customers to significantly impact their system resources. Therefore, if you are going to happen that less than 1% of customers who would really use"unlimited" resources, then yes, it is a myth. You can not just get "unlimited" resources from a particular hosting company. If, however, again, you're the 99% of customers who do not use a large amount of resources, it is true that offer the hosting company " unlimited "resources, which means that you never have the ability they have to offer you exceed the services you need.

If you are someone who has great capacity, bandwidth and storage needs are soIt's probably best that you use a dedicated server. However, if you in the vast majority who do not hold master's hosting of the enterprise, resources, an unlimited package for you, not least because there are many additional features available that you might find useful.

As an example, let's say that you have a lot of areas, and that everyone has his own website. Each website will not take much space on your hard drive soThis would be a burden on your hosting service and you will not be exposed to danger. In addition, you will be able to offer the benefits of unlimited possibilities, such as MySQL databases, autoresponders, e-mail accounts to take, and add-on domains. If each domain has a website, the average size, your account will not be exposed to danger.

And although it is true that for a very few people, "unlimited" web hosting packages do not reallyexist and a myth for the vast majority of customers, they are in fact a genuine offer. If you are among the 1%, the burden would probably be a hosting company's resources and enable you exposed yourself in danger by your account, then it's probably best that you opt instead for a dedicated server.
